What has changed on the plant.

Investment here shows up as a machine, a process or a laboratory rather than as an announcement. These are the changes a customer would actually notice.

Each entry is dated to the year it belongs to.

  • 2013 — The nickel laboratory opens A laboratory dedicated to the plating bath, with a Hull Cell unit and daily analysis using German reagents. It exists because a plating bath drifts invisibly, and parts from a drifted bath look correct and fail testing later.
  • 2010 — Plating on plastic commissioned The plating plant is established under German supervision, on German chemistry, giving chrome, satin chrome and copper finishes on site. Capacity 500 m² a month.
  • 2004 — Painting, printing and assembly added Water-curtain booths and ovens specified for plastics, a decorating line running silkscreen to five colours, and assembly — the point at which a part could leave here finished rather than raw.
  • 2000 — The Plast Mac plant opens on 5,000 m² Injection moulding expands into a plant of its own, and the name the company trades under today.
  • 1993 — Mould manufacturing brought in-house The mould shop is established, and the tooling lead time stops being somebody else’s schedule. Over 1,000 moulds have been built since.

How we invest

Each of those was a decision not to send work away

Nothing on this plant was acquired. Every capability was added because a customer needed something we had to send out of the building.

That is why the news on this page reads as a list of departments rather than as a list of announcements: painting arrived because painted parts were leaving the site to be finished, plating arrived because chromed trim was, and the nickel laboratory arrived because the plating needed measuring rather than trusting.

The pattern is the argument. A supplier who grew this way ends up accountable for the whole of a part, because there is nobody left to hand a defect to.
